Silverstar Casino Review

The Silverstar Casino has an enviable location on the outskirts of Krugersdorp, not too far from the centre of Johannesburg. It's a hugely popular entertainment destination, which probably isn't surprising given that it boasts a fantastic casino alongside plenty of other activities.

Silverstar has over 1,000 slot machines and 32 gaming tables, split between the main casino floor, a smoking area and an exclusive Salon Privé that's only open to Most Valued Guest VIPs.

Hit the tables to enjoy American Roulette, Baccarat, Blackjack and Texas Hold 'Em. This is a pretty good selection, with what are certainly some of the most popular table games in South African land-based casinos, and we're glad to see Baccarat on the menu since it's absent in so many other SA casinos. The only table game that Silverstar Casino is really missing is Craps.

The range of slot machines available at Silverstar Casino is particularly impressive. You'll find 3-reel, 5-reel, classic and video slots here and, in news that will be music to jackpot hunters' ears, progressive slots including 5 Dragons, Gold Rush, Double Nutty Jackpot and many more.

Using Silverstar's Rewards Card Gaming system will also allow you to jump from machine to machine without the need to deposit any cash, and you can play with denominations from 1c to R100.

Restaurants & Bars

As you'd expect from a venue of this size, Silverstar Casino has various different dining options for patrons to try. From Billy G's buffet and fast food outlets like Noodle Bar, Steers and RAJ Express to fantastic steaks at Silver Arrow Spur or the aptly named Steak, Silverstar has options that will suit everyone.

If you're in the mood for something a little different, try Portuguese at Calisto's, Thai food at Kai Thai or grab a slice of Italy at the Col'cacchio Pizzeria. There aren't quite so many options for alcoholic drinks, but you can always get a cocktail or glass of wine at Publicity Bar & Grill.

However long you're staying for, and whatever your dietary requirements, you'll be able to find something delicious at the Silverstar Casino.

Hotel Accommodation

Considering it caters for such a large casino, the Southern Sun Silverstar is actually fairly small. However, that's entirely by design. This luxurious boutique hotel has just 34 rooms, with views of the Silverstar fountain and the Square.

There are a couple of other accommodation options fairly close by to the resort, but the Southern Sun is absolutely the place to be if you want to be both close to the casino and in the thick of all the action that the complex has to offer.

The hotel is also extremely well situated if you want to see some of the sights of Gauteng while you're visiting: The Cradle of Mankind, Maropeng, Sterkfontein and Wonder Caves, Rhino and Lion Park, and the Krugersdorp Game Reserve are all comfortable driving distance away.

Or you could just lounge around by the outdoor pool...the choice is down to you!

Entertainment & Nightlife

During the day, you'll find all sorts of activities on the complex. When you're not gambling in the Silverstar Casino, you can check out the latest blockbusters in the on-site cinema, go bowling, play laser tag or check out some of the latest arcade games.

Once the sun has set, you'll want to head for the Square with its outdoor restaurants, fairy lights and spectacular water features. A large screen also shows things like sporting events and what's going on around the hotel.

There's no on-site nightclub, we're afraid, so those who are serious about their partying might find Silverstar just a little too laidback. That's not to say that Silverstar shuts down after dark – quite the opposite – but everything does tend to start wrapping up around midnight.

If you're really craving a late night, the casino is open 24/7 so you can always hit the tables or play at the slots until you're ready for bed. If you're a night owl just make sure to pack plenty into your days so you won't be opposed to hitting the sack a little earlier.

Other Facilities

From extensive conference facilities to an award winning day spa, Silverstar Casino has all sorts of amenities and activities to keep you busy when you're not gambling; we've barely scratched the surface of everything that the resort has to offer!

There's a crèche where you can leave the kids if you want to do some gambling or enjoy a bit of quiet time, as well as live entertainment and shows to take in.

You might come to Silverstar for the casino, but there's so much going on here that it really does feel like a full on entertainment destination. Whether you're staying for a few hours or a couple of weeks, there's no chance that you'll get bored.
