Sibaya Casino Review

In the hills of KwaZulu-Natal, just a few minutes' drive from King Shaka International Airport, sits the Sibaya Casino. Arguably the top casino in Durban, Sibaya Casino offers luxury gaming, ocean views and much more.

Let's start with the gaming, because there is PLENTY of it. Sibaya Casino has over 1000 slot machines and almost 50 gaming tables. Tables offer American Roulette, Blackjack, Casino Poker and Texas Hold 'Em, but you can also use touch-bet Roulette machines for even more table-style action.

The slot machines at Sibaya Casino come in all shapes and sizes – 5-reel, 3-reel, traditional, video, progressive – so there's something for everyone, whatever type of slots titles you usually enjoy.

Clearly, this is a very impressive selection by anyone's standards. Yes, it would be nice to see Baccarat, Craps and European Roulette making an appearance, but even without them it's still on par with the biggest and best land-based casinos in South Africa.

Games are spread across the casino in a way that gives everyone access to what they want – both smoking and non-smoking areas, as well as the exclusive Salon Privé that's reserved for Gold and Platinum MVG members and occasionally hosts parties for VIP guests, contain slots and table games.

Coinless tech plus various giveaways and promotions also keep things easy and enjoyable for players, so gambling at Sibaya Casino really is a treat.

Restaurants & Bars

This is another area in which Sibaya Casino really shines – the complex is not only home to several different eateries, but actually boasts some of the best restaurants in Durban.

And the choice of menu items is exceptional. In Africa To Asia alone, guests can enjoy seven island buffet stations offering everything from Asian and Middle Eastern to traditional South African cuisine.

There's also Aqua, for seafood in a stunning underwater themed setting, the Sun Sun Chinese restaurant and the Fego Caffé for light bites or a cup of coffee to keep you going through the night.

You can always try Nando's, Debonair’s or Steers for some fast food but, if you're in the mood for fine dining, head to The Royal Court Grill and enjoy something off the a la carte menu or unwind in the 18+ Virginia Bar with a cocktail and a cigar.

Hotel Accommodation

There are two hotels on the resort, but we need to point out that the 4 star Royal Sibaya is exclusive to Sun International MVG cardholders. If you're hoping to stay here, you'll need to be a part of the Most Valued Guest program.

However, we're sure you won't be too heartbroken if you end up staying in the 3 star Sibaya Lodge, with free Wi-Fi, access to swimming pools and a continental buffet breakfast, instead. The Lodge has over 100 rooms, and offers stunning panoramic ocean views that are simply breathtaking.

Both hotels are located a matter of seconds from the casino, are luxurious and have very attentive staff, so it really doesn't make all that much difference where you stay! There are several other hotels and guests houses on the coast but, for proximity to the Sibaya Casino, you just can't beat the on-site accommodation.

Entertainment & Nightlife

For live music and entertainment, guests should try the Krakatoa Show Bar. This three-tier venue, which boasts a gigantic dance floor, plays host to revues, cabarets and live bands.

With a capacity of close to 500 people, it's THE place to be on Friday or Saturday night if you want to enjoy some drinks and dancing. If you can do without the dancing, stick with the laidback vibe and comfortable couches of the Virginia Bar instead.

There's plenty to do during the day as well, since Sibaya Casino is just 8km from central Umhlanga and an even shorter distance from the beach. Take a break from gambling to do a little sunbathing, some swimming or even charter a boat for the day.

Other Facilities

Sibaya Casino is also home to the Mangwanani Day Spa, which is set within the grounds of a private and authentic Zulu village. With views of the Indian Ocean and rolling green hills, it's the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a treatment.

Kids can visit the arcade or stay in the crèche if you're uncomfortable leaving them unaccompanied, or you can treat the whole family to a show in Sibwaya's iZulu Theatre. There's also a conference centre on the complex in case you're looking for somewhere to host your next business retreat.

With an incredible casino, all sorts of different dining options and a fantastic beachside location – as well as outstanding transport links to get you there – Sibaya Casino is a great spot for a holiday or short break. If you get really lucky, you might even win big enough to cover the cost of your next holiday there!
