Khoroni Casino Review

On the edges of the Kruger National Park sits the hidden gem that is the Khoroni Casino. Given its humble location, you won't be surprised to learn that it's a fairly modest venue – can you imagine how uphill the battle would have been to build a megacasino just one hour from some of South Africa's most beautiful and tranquil surroundings? No chance.

With 150 slots and 8 tables, Khoroni is obviously one of the smaller casinos SA has to offer. It might be better to think of it as a resort that happens to have a casino rather than a casino with an accompanying resort.

For example, the non-smoking area of the casino doesn't even have any tables. It is worth noting, however, that tables are now open from 10am every day – they used to open at 4pm.

If you're a smoker, or are willing to brave the smoking area, you'll be able to enjoy Blackjack and American Roulette. No Baccarat, Craps or European Roulette unfortunately, but there's still plenty of fun to be had. Regular daily events include cash and prize giveaways, triple loyalty points, special table games and mystery jackpots, which certainly help to spice up the action.

With a fairly modest offering of games Khoroni obviously can't compete with the megacasinos located elsewhere in South Africa, but it's pretty much the only option in the area so any gambling fans living in or passing through Limpopo will certainly be glad of it.

Restaurants & Bars

There are a couple of different options to get your fill at the Khoroni Casino. If you're just looking for a quick bite, you can grab something light from the Pool Deck Takeaway or enjoy a snack while you gamble on the casino floor. If you're having too much fun to stop what you're doing, that should keep you going for a while!

If you're looking for something more substantial, you'll want to visit the Malingani Restaurant. Here you can fill up on a full English breakfast (which gets great reviews by lots of customers online), lunch or the dinner buffet. An a la carte menu is also available if you have a particular dish in mind.

There's no need to rush away from the casino since The Malingani is open until 11pm every night, so you can dine as early or as late as you please. If you want to get away from the casino for a while, there's a mall and shopping centre nearby with other restaurants like Nando's and a pizzeria available.

Hotel Accommodation

The 3 star Peermont Metcourt Hotel, which adjoins the Khoroni Casino, has almost 100 comfortable and well-appointed rooms for players who want to be within easy walking distance of the casino.

There are superior suites, executive suites and a premier suite if you feel like splashing out on a little extra luxury, and all rooms have access to a gym, pool, crèche and secure parking. You'll find a few other hotels in the area, but none of them offer quite the same luxury experience that this one does.

Plus, various promotions and seasonal packages mean that staying at the Khoroni Casino doesn't have to cost as much as you might think. The Peermont Metcourt is an ideal place to stay if you want to combine the fun of real money gambling with the thrills of visiting the nearby national park.

Entertainment & Nightlife

Unless you're planning on spending the night in the casino, you won't find much else to keep you occupied around here. You can grab a drink in the restaurant (which closes at 11pm) and the hotel does put on live entertainment from time to time, but there aren't many options for players who are looking to dance the night away.

Still, after a day of gambling and/or trekking through the Kruger National Park, we're not so sure many players would have the energy for a late night anyway! But we have to admit that it's nice to have the option to party it up once the sun has set, so it's a shame that the closest nightspots require a lengthy drive to get there.

Other Facilities

One of the best things about Khoroni Casino is its location. In the local area you can enjoy scenic views, 4x4 excursions, lakeside hikes and plenty more. Or, you could head to the Kruger National Park and try to spot impalas, zebras, buffaloes, elephants or exotic birds.

With all of this just an hour's drive away, you'd have to be crazy not to check out some of the fantastic tours on the Khoroni Casino's doorstep! This has to be one of the few casinos in South Africa that both nature lovers and gambling fanatics can really fall in love with.
